Glowing Tissue-Flame Bonfire

Ages 4–7⏱ 40 minMess: MEDIUMGrown-up help: LowJunk ModelArt & Design
Captain A stands beside the finished craft, proudly gesturing with open hands towards the glowing bonfire model.

Captain A will help you learn: Builds a pretend bonfire from cardboard-tube logs and tissue-paper flames that glows with a battery tea light. Along the way children learn that a real fire needs fuel, heat and air, and the Bonfire Night safety rules: grown-ups light fires, and everyone else stays well back.

⚠️ Use a battery tea light only, never a real candle or flame. Keep the tea light's battery compartment closed, as button batteries are very dangerous if swallowed. An adult should help cut the tubes if the cardboard is thick.

Play through the project step by step, with narration read aloud.

Make it your own: Make a cardboard 'safety line' fence around your bonfire and practise the rule of staying behind it, then add a little cardboard hedgehog peeking out to remind everyone to check bonfire piles before lighting.
