Bread in a Bag

Professor O will help you learn: Yeast is alive โ it eats sugar and burps gas that makes the dough rise.
โ ๏ธ The oven and loaf tin get very hot โ an adult does all the baking and takes the loaf out with oven gloves.
Steps
- Put the flour, yeast, sugar and salt into the bag, then add the oil and warm water.
- Seal the bag with a little air inside and squish everything together for 2โ3 minutes until it makes a sticky dough with no dry flour left.

Poppy Shortbread Biscuits
Children bake simple shortbread rounds and decorate them as red poppies to share with family or neighbours around Remembrance Sunday. They practise weighing, rubbing butter into flour and see how baking turns soft dough into crisp biscuits.

Shake-and-Burst Firework Bottle
A calming sensory bottle where glitter and star sequins burst and swirl like fireworks, then slowly drift down. Young children explore how glue makes water thicker so things sink more slowly, and it is a gentle way to talk about loud fireworks if they feel worried on Bonfire Night.

Crackly Bonfire Toffee Apples
Makes the traditional Bonfire Night treat of apples coated in shiny red toffee. Children see how heating sugar and water boils the water away until the sugar reaches the 'hard crack' stage and sets into a glassy solid, and practise reading a thermometer.
