Ghost Story Stop-Motion

Ages 7–12⏱ 60 minMess: LOWGrown-up help: MediumArt & DesignStop-Motion & Film
Captain A stands proudly beside the completed stop-motion animation setup, gesturing welcomingly toward the open shoebox stage.

Captain A will help you learn: Moving a model ghost a tiny bit between each photo and then playing the photos quickly creates the illusion of movement, the same trick used in animated films. Children plan a short story, practise patience and learn how frames per second work.

⚠️ Needs a phone or tablet with a free stop-motion app; an adult should choose and install the app. Keep devices on a steady, flat surface away from water.

Steps

  1. Plan a very short story in three parts, such as the ghost appears, spots a pumpkin and says boo.
  2. Line the inside of the shoebox with dark paper and glue on a paper moon and a spooky house outline.
