Leaf & Bark Rubbings

Collect a few different leaves, choosing ones with clear bumpy veins.

Lay a leaf flat on a hard surface with its bumpy vein-side facing up.

Place a sheet of paper over the top of the leaf and hold it still.

Rub the long side of a crayon back and forth over the paper until the leaf pattern appears.

Take your paper and crayons to a tree, hold the paper flat against the bark, and rub to capture the ridges.

Build up a collection of different leaf and bark textures, and if a pattern comes out faint, press a little harder and rub in one direction.
