Bean in a Jar

Scrunch the kitchen roll or cotton wool and line the inside of the jar with it.

Add a splash of water so the lining is damp all the way round but not sitting in a puddle.

Tuck one dried bean between the damp paper and the glass, about halfway down, so you can see it clearly.

Stand the jar on a windowsill where it gets light.

Check every day and add a little water if the paper starts to dry out.

Watch over about a week as the roots grow down and the green shoot grows up, and if nothing happens after 10 days, try a fresh bean as some duds just do not sprout.
