Homemade Fizzy Lemonade

Roll the lemon on the table with your hand pressing down — this makes it juicier and easier to squeeze.

Ask an adult to cut the lemon in half, then squeeze both halves into the glass, catching the pips with a fork or small sieve.

Add 2 teaspoons of sugar and stir until you cannot feel the grains at the bottom any more.

Pour in about 200ml of cold water and stir again.

Take a tiny taste — add a little more sugar if it is too sharp, and stir it in.

Add a small pinch of bicarbonate of soda and stir quickly, then watch it fizz and foam up.

Drink your fizzy lemonade straight away while it is still bubbly. If it barely fizzed, your pinch of soda was too small — try a tiny bit more next time; if it tasted soapy, you used too much.
