Vinegar experiments for kids
Vinegar is a safe, gentle acid, and that makes it a brilliant experiment ingredient. It fizzes with bicarbonate of soda, shines up dull coins, turns an egg bouncy and changes the colour of cabbage water. Here are the JunkyCraft experiments that use it.
6 projects to try

Baking-Soda Balloon
Vinegar and baking soda make carbon dioxide gas, which fills the balloon on its own.

Bubbling Cauldron Potion
Mixing bicarbonate of soda with vinegar makes a gas called carbon dioxide, and a squirt of washing-up liquid traps it in bubbles so the potion foams up and over the cauldron like a witch's brew.

Threading Pasta Necklaces
Threading tube pasta onto a lace is brilliant for hand-eye coordination and patience, and lining up colours in a repeating pattern is an early step towards understanding sequences and maths.

Bottle-Top Volcano
A chemical reaction: an acid (vinegar) and a base (baking soda) make carbon dioxide gas, which is the fizzy foam.
🔒 PremiumNaked (Rubber) Egg
Vinegar (an acid) dissolves the hard shell, leaving the bendy membrane - and the egg swells as water moves in (osmosis).
🔒 PremiumRed Cabbage Colour Changer
Red cabbage juice is a natural indicator - it turns pink in acids and blue/green in alkalis.
